Chamber Music

Sepia, for solo piano, is from a set of two short pieces that were a reflection on regret and "what if..."

Trio II was written for the occasion of my undergraduate graduation. I choose Horn, Cello, and Piano because of my love for the sound of these instruments and I felt that they could compliment each other well. The journey of the music seeks to reflect the feelings of transition that the graduating class faced: the uncertainty of the future, a reminiscence of the college years, and a hope for the future.

Supplications, for Clarinet Quintet, was my first substantial composition after matriculating at The Catholic University of America. The idea behind the piece was to progress through different historical musical styles, which proved to be a major challenge. In the end, the piece became a parody of different musical styles in order to keep coherence within the work. Supplications was premiered by Dave LaMay, Doug Nash, Elena Forbes, Maurice Saylor, and Roc Lee.

Large Ensemble

Centre Georges Pompideau was written in response to a challenge to represent an architectural work through music with a time limit of one minute. The chosen structure, the Centre Georges Pompideau in France, is a stunning architectural work, standing in stark contrast to everything surrounding it. The music in the piece strives to capture the first impressions of a tourist as they regard the building from afar and then travel up the escalator into the building.

Fantasy, for symphony orchestra, was commissioned by the Houghton College Equestrian Society to be the music for a choreographed eleven-horse quadrille. The choreography had already been set by the time of commission, so the music is written to reflect the changes in the formation and gait of the horses.

A Charge to Hope was written as a gift to a friend who had just lost his job. The meaning of "charge" in this sense is primarily as a directive, but also a noun, to not despair in his situation.

Video Games

Code Name Mortus is a Massively Multi-player Online Real-Time Strategy Game (MMORTS) being developed independently. I came into contact with the group about a year and a half ago and composed the score for them. The game is still in development, but here is a demo reel of some of the music. The game is set in a post-apocalyptic space-world and the tracks featured in the demo seek to evoke a sense of wonder and adventure.

Spice of Life is an original video game for the XBox created by David Welch as an entry in the 2010 Dream-Build-Play contest. The prompt for the 2010 contest was to create a game that promoted the new scents of Old Spice deodorant. David was looking for a hard rock sound that would introduce a feeling of excitement and adventure to the third-person scrolling game he had created. Using the Old Spice theme as inspiration, the final track presents a "manly" version of the familiar tune.
